Lucknow: Several student and social groups staged a march on Thursday against the sealing of Lal Baradari, demanding that the administration make public the official order and safety report. Police stopped the march midway. The protest followed a 48 hour ultimatum to Lucknow University seeking clarity on why the nearly 200-year-old structure was sealed without a public explanation. The students also demanded details of Rs 5 crore sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan and withdrawal of action against protesting students, saying peaceful protest is their democratic right.A student leader, Amitesh Pal said, “We are demanding transparency and accountability. Students should not face threats or punitive actions for raising legitimate concerns.”A broad alliance of student, youth, women, labour, and civil society organisations — including AISA, AIPWA, AICCTU, BAPSA, BSM, CPI(ML) Liberation, Jan Sanskriti Manch, RYA, Rihaai Manch, Socialist Party, and Nationalist Youth Party — participated in the march.LU spokesperson Mukul Srivastava said, “The building was sealed because of its dilapidated condition, and the university never received Rs 5 crore under the PM-USHA scheme.”
