Watching Aamir Khan in romantic comedies has always been a treat, but here’s something unexpected, he wasn’t allowed to watch such films while growing up. In a recent interaction, the actor opened up about his conservative upbringing and his rather unusual relationship with cinema.Aamir admitted that even he finds his habits surprising, as he prefers reading over watching films. He shared that he has been an avid reader since childhood and that black-and-white films are the only kind he has watched consistently. Reflecting on his strict upbringing, he said in an interview with Variety India, “We were not allowed to watch films. So, at that time, I remember, if I had asked my mom if I could watch a film, she would say yes, but romantic films were not allowed.“Interestingly, despite being one of the biggest names in the film industry, Aamir revealed that he hardly watches movies at all. Explaining this, he said, “I got into filmmaking at the age of 18. I started working as an assistant. I don’t want to sound patronising, but just as a joke, I’d like to say that some people play football and some people watch football. That’s a good way to put it. I make films, I barely watch them. That’s the truth of the answer. I barely watch films. So, I don’t watch the latest movies. I have no idea what’s happening in Hollywood. I’m in my own world; I don’t really watch stuff.”On the professional front, Aamir was last seen in a cameo in Happy Patel and also made a brief appearance in Vir Das’ directorial debut. Looking ahead, he has an exciting slate lined up. His production venture Ek Din, featuring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, is scheduled to release on May 1, followed by Lahore 1947 in August. He also hinted at another project titled Ati Sundar, which is expected to hit screens later this year.
