Lucknow: Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday dared BJP functionaries to reach out to the people of the state standing in queues outside gas stations across the state. He said the present shortage of LPG, petrol and diesel was a ploy to mint money by felicitating black marketing and prices rise.“Functionaries and workers of the world largest political party (that BJP claims to be) are missing from action. They are nowhere to be seen. Why are they not reaching out to people standing in long queues outside LPG distribution centres and petrol pumps? This is the time when BJP workers and their support group should reach out to people in this hour of crisis. Why have they removed the BJP flags from their SUVs,” Akhilesh asked. The SP chief said whenever the BJP talks of ‘opportunity in adversity’, one should understand the real meaning of it and its chronology.“It starts with triggering panic by publicising ‘shortage’ and ‘scarcity’ to add to the actual crisis on ground. This leaves the common man standing in long queues,” Akhilesh said.“Then they (BJP) put the blame on someone else. When the people get desperate, they (govt) increase the prices of the commodity in quick succession. Rumours that situation would get worse in days to come, compel people to stack up the commodity leading to black marketing and manifold increase in prices to mint money,” he claimed. The SP chief said this was the exact modus operandi of the BJP govt behind the recent ‘fertilizer shortage’ which was repeated for the LPG and now being applied to petrol and diesel.“Black marketing of fertilizer bags was rampant as farmers spent days in queues for their turn to get limited fertilizers at govt depots. The govt quietly reduced the net contents of a bag of fertilizers from 45 kg to 40 kg,” Akhilesh alleged.Without taking names, Akhilesh said a deputy chief minister in Uttar Pradesh had announced that anyone facing shortage of LPG cylinders should call him and he would provide one.“This proves that black marketing is rampant, otherwise where can he (the Dy CM) get the cylinder from,” Akhilesh said.“For the BJP and its support group, the real meaning of ‘opportunity in adversity’ means minting money through black marketing during crisis. False claims of relief are only adding to the anger and disgust of the people,” he remarked.
