Xcode 26.3 is out, and it lets Claude Agent and OpenAI Codex operate directly inside Apple’s IDE – building projects, running tests, checking their own work via Xcode Previews, and iterating through fixes autonomously. Apple built the integration on Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol, which means any MCP-compatible agent can plug in too, not just the two launch partners. Developers like Steve Troughton-Smith have already used the agents to rewrite Objective-C apps into Swift with minimal manual intervention. Apple arriving late to AI-assisted coding but shipping with an open protocol and a granular permissions layer is a different posture than the locked-down approach most expected. Cursor, Windsurf, and GitHub Copilot built the category; Apple just made it native for every iOS developer.
