Lucknow: BJP MPs and MLAs, including ministers are expected to camp in their respective Mandals — which is an organisational unit between the district and the booth level —for a night to mobilise party workers for the next year’s UP elections. Those picked for the task are 54 BJP MPs (33 from Lok Sabha and 21 from Rajya Sabha), including nine Union ministers; 257 MLAs, including 54 UP ministers. The exercise, seen as a high-intensity pre-election mobilisation strategy, is proposed to be conducted in the coming days. The party is also carrying out training sessions for its foot soldiers.“Staying overnight in their respective Mandals will be mandatory for the functionaries irrespective of their organisational or administrative stature,” a top UP BJP functionary told TOI.Last week, UP BJP general secretary (organisation) Dharam Pal Singh had laid out the blueprint of the poll strategy to counter Samajwadi Party and its ally Congress in UP elections. The overnight stay by senior functionaries is aimed at breaking hierarchy barriers while reinforcing discipline and creating direct contact with booth-level workers, sending a signal that electoral success depended on collective effort, not on individual stature, said a senior UP BJP leader associated with the exercise.Sources said that the concept mirrors the organisational ethos of the RSS.The Awadh region, comprising 15 districts (16 Lok Sabha) and 377 Mandals, is represented by seven MPs, including Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Kirtivardhan Singh. The other five are Ashok Rawat (Mishrik), Jai Prakash Rawat (Hardoi), Sakshi Maharaj (Unnao), Karan Bhushan (Kaiserganj) and Anand Gond (Bahraich). The region also has a representation of six ministers in the Yogi council — deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, Nitin Agarwal, Rajni Tewari, Suresh Rahi, Satish Sharma and Dinesh Pratap Singh.BJP, analysts said, is trying to consolidate its cadre base early before elections, besides preventing complacency among sitting MPs and MLAs to ensure last-mile delivery of political messaging.
