Lucknow: A case of cyber fraud has been registered at the Gomti Nagar Cyber Police Station after a fake Facebook profile was created in the name of a senior police officer, used to cheat people. The complainant, Ashok Kumar, deputy inspector general (DIG) of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), alleged that unknown persons created a fake ID impersonating him and began soliciting money from his acquaintances.According to the complaint, the accused used a mobile number and falsely introduced himself as Santosh Kumar, claiming to be posted in the CRPF. Screenshots of the fake profile and related evidence have been submitted to the police.The FIR has been lodged under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act 2000, including provisions related to cheating, impersonation, and identity theft.Police officials said the case was registered following written information received from the DIG. An investigation has been initiated to trace the accused and take appropriate legal action.
