Anthropic made the 1 million token context window generally available across Claude Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6, dropping the long-context premium entirely – standard pricing applies at every length. Media handling jumped from 100 to 600 images or PDF pages per request, and the beta header for requests over 200K tokens is gone. Opus 4.6 hits 78.3% on MRCR v2, which Anthropic claims is the highest among frontier models at that scale. Available on Azure Foundry and Vertex AI alongside Claude’s own platform. The practical shift matters most for agent workflows and Claude Code users who can now load full codebases without worrying about context clearing. Google’s Gemini had the long-context lead for over a year – Anthropic just closed that gap at a price point that undercuts most competitors.
