Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Election Commission and the BJP, alleging a “conspiracy” to delete voters’ names to create fear ahead of elections.Addressing the media after a daylong visit to Kanpur, Akhilesh claimed that the EC was acting in tandem with the BJP and failing to act against those allegedly removing names from voters’ lists using forged signatures. He said SP’s “PDA Praharis” had identified such instances, but no action was taken.Outlining his party’s development roadmap, he said if voted to power, the SP would develop a Kanpur–Etawah–Kannauj “trade triangle” to boost industrial growth. He promised revival of the iconic Lal Imli mill and said Kanpur would regain its industrial identity. He also highlighted projects initiated during the previous SP govt, including the Kanpur Metro, power plants in Panki and Ghatampur, and an Amul dairy plant.Criticising BJP govt, the former UP CM alleged widespread corruption, deteriorating law and order, and failure to clean rivers despite budget allocations. He also referred to recent controversies, including alleged illegal activities and health sector irregularities, claiming that people, especially the poor, are losing faith in public institutions. He further said women’s safety remains a major concern in Uttar Pradesh, citing NCRB data, and alleged that crime incidents were rising even in high-profile constituencies.Akhilesh also accused govt of neglecting “Shiksha Mitras,” stating that their honorarium remains significantly lower than during the SP regime. He promised justice and better compensation for them if his party returns to power. On healthcare system, Akhlesh alleged that public hospitals are failing to provide affordable treatment, forcing the poor to seek costly private care.
