Lucknow: LPG supply concerns are now affecting old age homes in the city, with operators struggling to arrange cylinders and turning to alternative cooking methods to ensure regular meals for residents. This was revealed in a recent TOI reality check. From Indira Nagar to Kukrail and Aminabad, operators reported delays in cylinder supply, reduced allocations, and long waits at agencies, making it difficult to prepare timely meals for residents and adding to the strain on already limited resources. At Happy Parents Home in Indira Nagar, Indira Talukdar, who runs the NGO, said the facility has shifted to induction cooking due to the shortage. The home houses 28 elderly residents. “We are managing on induction, but it takes more time to prepare food for everyone,” she said.At Aastha Old Age Assisted Living Centre & Health Resort near Kukrail picnic spot, Dr Abhishek Shukla said the centre, which has around 50 residents, requires four meals a day. “Earlier we used to get four cylinders, but now only one is being provided. We wrote to the administration, after which the agency is supplying one cylinder,” he said.In smaller facilities, the situation is more challenging. Vishwas Dixit, who runs a private care home on Aminabad Road with five residents, said he now has to visit the gas agency and stand in long queues. “Earlier cylinders were delivered at home. Now sometimes I am not able to get one even after waiting,” he said. With irregular supplies, some homes are relying on support from local residents, who are stepping in to provide cooked food when required, ensuring that elderly residents do not go without meals.
