LUCKNOW: Fresh revelations have emerged in the sensational murder of a 49-year-old pathology operator and liquor businessman, Manvendra Singh, by his son, Akshat, in Aashiana on Feb 20.According to police, both Manvendra and Akshat were under the influence of alcohol on the fateful night.“In his statement, Akshat told investigators that his father returned home intoxicated from an event, while he had also consumed alcohol earlier. An argument broke out between them, during which Manvendra allegedly abused him. Enraged and intoxicated, Akshat allegedly used his father’s licensed rifle to shoot him dead,” an officer privy to the investigation said.Police said that the accused reportedly broke down after his arrest and expressed the desire to meet his younger sister.“Akshat hugged his sister and wept uncontrollably. He also requested for his phone to transfer money to his sister, citing her serious illness. However, the device was already seized for forensic examination. He reportedly informed her about the money in his account and instructed her to pay salary to a clerk at their pathology lab and retain the remaining amount,” the officer said.Jail authorities said that Akshat spent a restless night in custody and was admitted to jail hospital for monitoring. Officials said he initially refused food and later consumed only a small amount after persuasion.Police also initiated counselling sessions, as he reportedly showed signs of remorse.Investigators said they were probing multiple aspects of the case, including the sequence of events after the murder, disposal of body parts, and the accused’s mental state.
