Microsoft is testing a consolidated Tasks feature inside Copilot that bundles its Researcher and Analyst agents – previously standalone tools in Microsoft 365 – into a single dropdown alongside scheduled and one-time task execution. Three modes are available: Auto for general browsing and research, Researcher running OpenAI’s deep research model, and Analyst using o3-mini with live Python execution. Tasks can be scheduled daily, weekly, or monthly, which moves Copilot closer to persistent background agents rather than one-shot chat interactions. The shift from standalone agent tools to a unified task interface mirrors what Google has been doing with Gemini’s integration into Workspace. No launch date yet, and the UI still looks unfinished, but the architectural direction is clear enough.
