Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh govt is planning to involve NCC and NSS cadets in a pilot phase at the state level to enhance road safety measures and reduce accident deaths by 50%. The announcement was made at the inauguration of two-day ‘road safety dialogue’ at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow on Tuesday. Transport minister Dayashankar Singh said the state records around 24,000 road accident deaths every year. He said that objective of this two-day interactive programme is to ensure that participants leave with training and dedicated efforts to reduce road accidentsTransport commissioner, Kinjal Singh, said that during the two-day campaign, scout and guide instructors from all 75 districts of the state will be trained on basic rules, concepts, and immediate first aid in accidents. Through these instructors, the programme will be expanded to all scout and guide units formed at the school level in the districts.She further said that the ‘road safety dialogue’ is an innovative initiative to connect and sensitize all district-level scout and guide units in the state to the road safety campaign.
