At least 25 people were injured after seven coaches of a train derailed in Pakistan’s Punjab province late on Tuesday night. The incident took place in Lodhran, around 400 km from Lahore, forcing authorities to suspend rail traffic on the affected track. The Karachi-bound Tezgam Express had left Lahore Railway Station in the evening and derailed near Adam Wahan Railway Station on the Bahawalpur-Lodhran section at around 9.30 pm. “The train derailed when it reached near Adam Wahan Railway Station. Seven bogies went off the track, with some passengers trapped inside,” officials said as quoted by news agency PTI.“Some 25 passengers have been injured, one of them seriously. However, no casualty has been reported,” they added.Rescue teams from Punjab Emergency Department Rescue 1122 reached the spot, pulled out trapped passengers and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi said that human error and possible mechanical issues were likely behind the derailment. A railway official said the incident may have been caused by couplers between the bogies breaking, which split the train into two parts. The coaches attached to the engine derailed after the separation, he added.Railway traffic on the route remains suspended as authorities continue inspection and restoration work.
