Lucknow: SGPGI’s governing body on Friday approved the appointment of the workforce for the upcoming 573-bed advanced pediatric centre at the institute.The decision was taken during the 104th meeting of the institute’s apex decision-making body. The meeting was convened by chief secretary SP Goyal, said executive registrar Col Varun Bajpai. Sources said the centre requires 131 faculty, 483 residents, 1540 non-faculty and 160 outsourced employees for full-strength functioning. And all the positions have been approved. However, recruitment will be undertaken in a phased manner, beginning with 60 faculty and 205 residents. “The new facility is expected to become a major centre for specialised and super-specialty treatment for children, benefiting more than 10 crore pediatric patients in Uttar Pradesh and adjoining states,” said SGPGI director Prof RK Dhiman. The centre was approved by the state cabinet in Dec 2023 to cater to specific medical needs of children and adolescents. “Data shows that 40% of the state’s population is below 18 years of age. Compared to the elderly, management of diseases in children is very different,” said Prof Dhiman. The centre will have 21 departments and six specialties across intensive care, day care, general beds, isolation and critical care. Dean Prof Shaleen Kumar, faculty members, members of the governing body and director general, medical education were also present on the occasion.
