Vercel reported that over 30 percent of its deployments now come from coding agents, up 1,000 percent in six months, with Claude Code driving 75 percent of agent-initiated deploys. The platform is restructuring around this shift with three layers: deployment surfaces for agents via CLI, REST API, and MCP servers; an agent development stack including AI SDK v6, AI Gateway for multi-model routing, and sandboxed execution; and autonomous infrastructure that investigates anomalies and proposes fixes. Agent-deployed projects call AI inference providers 20 times more often than human-deployed ones, which reshapes the economics of hosting entirely. Vercel is making the same bet as Netlify and Cloudflare – that the next wave of platform growth comes from serving agents, not developers directly.
