Lucknow: A woman has filed a case, claiming she was assaulted and thrown out of the home after giving birth to a daughter, as her in-laws allegedly wanted a male child.The complainant, Lata Kumari, a resident of Chhitwapur Pajawa in the Hussainganj area, lodged a complaint at the women’s police station in Hazratganj. She said that she was married on May 28, 2023, and was subjected to taunts over insufficient dowry ever since.According to the complaint, the situation worsened after she gave birth to a daughter on July 12, 2025. She alleged that her husband and in-laws began subjecting her to continuous mental and physical harassment following the child’s birth.Lata further alleged that on the night of July 29, 2025, around 2am, her husband, father-in-law, sister-in-law and mother-in-law allegedly assaulted her, abused her and forced her out of the house. The woman said she dialled the emergency helpline 112, but no effective action was taken. Subsequently, she approached the women’s police station and filed a complaint.Police said an FIR was registered and an investigation is underway, and action will be taken based on the findings.
