Lucknow: Gonda’s Ramghat, a revered site associated with a lesser-known episode from the Ramayana, has been included in UP’s expanding Ramayana Circuit, with govt sanctioning a Rs 66.86 lakh tourism development project to transform it into a major pilgrimage destination.The project, being implemented under the CM tourism development scheme, has received its first instalment of Rs 50 lakh. The UP State Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) will execute the work. Located about 45 km from Ayodhya in Amdahi village of Tarabganj tehsil, the site is home to the ancient Shri Ashtavakra Rishi Ashram.According to Ramayana, Lord Ram released an arrow to draw a stream from the Saryu river to the sage’s hermitage, enabling him to continue his penance without travelling daily to the river. The stream later came to be known as Barsot, giving Ramghat a unique place in the Ramayana tradition.Tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh said the initiative is part of the state’s effort to expand the Ramayana Circuit beyond Ayodhya by developing lesser-known sites. linked to Lord Ram’s life. The project includes a hall for satsangs, , landscaped pathways, seating areas, solar-powered infrastructure, drinking water facilities and upgraded public amenities.QR code-enabled digital signages will provide visitors with information on the Ramghat legend, Sage Ashtavakra and the site’s historical significance through their smartphones.Meanwhile, Gonda recorded over 3.41 lakh tourist arrivals during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting its growing importance on UP’s religious tourism map. The initiative is aimed at preserving the state’s spiritual heritage.
