Lucknow: Around 1.27 lakh students will receive their degrees on Friday as two state universities in Lucknow—Lucknow University and Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU)—will hold their convocation ceremonies on the same day.LU on Thursday conducted a full-dress rehearsal at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Centre to review all arrangements for its 69th convocation.The convocation will be presided over by Uttar Pradesh governor and chancellor Anandiben Patel. NITI Aayog member and former secretary, department of science and technology , Prof Abhay Karandikar, will be the chief guest.LU will confer degrees on 1,25,239 students, including 93,536 undergraduate, 31,006 postgraduate, 419 diploma, 30 online programme students and 248 PhD scholars.Female students will account for 54.38% of the graduating class. The university will also present 204 medals to 111 meritorious students, including 80 women and 31 men, with several students receiving multiple medals for outstanding academic performance.Meanwhile, DSMNRU will confer degrees on 1,919 students, including 955 women and 964 men, besides awarding PhD degrees to 17 scholars. The university will honour 130 meritorious students with 156 medals comprising 76 gold, 40 silver and 40 bronze medals.Vice-chancellor Prof Sanjay Singh said women have secured a majority of the top honours, winning 41 gold, 24 silver and 26 bronze medals, while male students will receive 35 gold, 16 silver and 14 bronze medals.In a significant achievement, 27 students with disabilities have collectively won 45 medals, including 22 gold, one silver and four bronze medals. Of these, 13 are women and 14 are men.
