Lucknow: Nearly 11 months after the death of a 38-year-old man in jail custody in UP’s Ambedkar Nagar district, an FIR was registered Thursday following court intervention. Ajay Kumar died last March.The FIR names the then Mahrua SHO and the jail superintendent, cops involved in Ajay’s arrest, and a local. All were booked on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The action came after court took cognisance of the delay and directed police to initiate legal proceedings.Ajay’s mother said her son had an argument over the phone with one Anil Kumar. The conversation was allegedly recorded and made viral. Based on this, police picked up Ajay on March 29. He was produced in court the same day and sent to judicial custody.On March 30, she was informed that Ajay had fallen ill and was admitted in hospital. When the family reached the hospital, police informed them the body was kept in the mortuary.They found serious injury marks on the body. The mother said despite submitting complaints to the then circle officer and later to the SP, no FIR was registered.
