Lucknow: Three men, including a bride’s brother, were killed in a road accident late Wednesday night in Rae Bareli, just a day before a scheduled tilak ceremony in the family. The deceased were identified as Sandeep Singh, 35, and his friends Dhananjay Singh, 32 and Ashutosh Maurya, 35. According to police, the trio went to Rae Bareli to purchase items for Sandeep’s younger sister Kajal’s tilak ceremony, scheduled for Thursday. After completing their shopping around 9pm, the three had dinner at a hotel and were returning home in an Indigo car. Around 11:10 pm, near Fatehpur Mohaliya on the Lucknow–Prayagraj highway, the speeding vehicle reportedly lost control and rammed into a roadside tree before plunging into a ditch. Eyewitnesses said the car was travelling at high speed and the impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled, with doors ripped apart. Police pulled the three occupants out of the car, rushing them to the Jagatpur Community Health Centre, where doctors declared them dead. Deputy SP Arun Nauhar said further legal action is under way.
