Lucknow: To prevent building collapses during the monsoon, Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has issued notices to owners and occupants of 199 unsafe buildings, asking them to repair the structures or vacate them immediately.Officials said the buildings pose a risk to residents and nearby properties during heavy rainfall. The action is part of LMC’s monsoon safety drive, and surveys are underway to identify more such structures. The highest number of unsafe buildings has been identified in Zone 1, covering Hazratganj, Aminabad, Kaiserbagh and Latouche Road, with 99 buildings. Zone 2, comprising Tilak Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar I & II, Rajendra Nagar, Aishbagh, Yahiyaganj, Raja Bazar and Kundri Rakabganj, has 52 unsafe buildings. This is followed by Zone 6, covering Chowk, Thakurganj and Balaganj, with 31 buildings, and Zone 3, which includes Aliganj, Mahanagar, Nirala Nagar, Kapoorthala, Daliganj, Faizullaganj and IT Chauraha, with 11 buildings. Zone 4, covering Gomtinagar and its extension, has four unsafe buildings, while one unsafe building has been identified in Zone 7 on Kanpur Road. Most of these buildings are located in older parts of the city and have weakened due to age and poor maintenance. Officials said demolition is often delayed because many properties are involved in ownership or tenancy disputes pending in courts.Chief engineer Mahesh Chandra Verma urged owners and occupants to comply with the notices to prevent any loss of life or property during the monsoon.
