Lucknow: Protests continued at Ganga Girls’ Hostel of Lucknow University’s second campus on Thursday after two more students fell ill, allegedly after eating mess food.Students said complaints about unhygienic conditions were ignored. Hosteller Kashish said, “We fell sick due to unhygienic food. Despite complaints, no action was taken. The provost threatened us, and complaints against her went unaddressed.” Meanwhile, the Food Safety and Drug Administration inspected the hostel after complaints and viral videos. FSDA officer Vijay Pratap Singh said food samples were collected and action will follow if irregularities are found. Amid the uproar, Lucknow University vice-chancellor Prof JP Saini conducted a surprise inspection of rooms, common areas and the mess. He directed that female staff be assigned to serve food and asked the construction department to fix structural issues immediately. A five-member committee will probe the mess, and show-cause notices will be issued to contractors. Later, he met students at the law faculty and Homi Jehangir Bhabha Boys’ Hostel, directing the additional chief provost to hold daily meetings in hostels.
