27 snake hatchlings found inside water tank in Haridwar, sparks panic in village | Dehradun News

DEHRADUN: A family in Haridwar’s Sarai village was left in panic on Monday afternoon after they discovered 27 snake hatchlings writhing inside a water tank in their courtyard.Chaos erupted when the family noticed movement inside the tank while filling it with water.Alarmed by the sight, they immediately informed the Forest Department, after which a rescue team reached the spot and safely removed all the hatchlings.Upon receiving the information, ‘Snakemen’ Talib and Bhola arrived at the location and carried out a rescue operation. A total of 27 snake hatchlings were carefully retrieved from the tank.Divisional forest officer Swapnil Aniruddh said that all the rescued hatchlings belong to the Checkered Keelback species, commonly known as water snakes. He added that the species is non-venomous and is usually found near ponds, canals, reservoirs, and other water bodies.According to officials, a large number of snake hatchlings were suddenly spotted in the water tank of a house in Sarai village, leaving the family terrified.As news spread, a crowd of locals gathered at the scene.
