Lucknow: Three trainee constables feared drowned while bathing in the Sharda Canal near Rasulpur under the Tadiyawan police station limits in Hardoi district on Sunday.While two of them were rescued with the help of local villagers, the third constable was swept away by the strong current and remains missing.According to police, the incident occurred when the three trainees, Gaurav Srivastava, Rajendra Kumar and Surjit Sharma returning from a nearby market, stopped near the Paretha bridge and entered the canal to bathe. Unaware of the depth and the intensity of the current, all three suddenly began to drown.Hearing their cries for help, nearby villagers rushed to the spot and rescued two of them. However, the third constable, Gaurav Srivastava, was carried away by the strong current and could not be located.Additional superintendent of police (West), Martand Prakash Singh said, confirmed the incident and said that immediate rescue operations were launched. “Two constables have been rescued safely, while search efforts are underway to locate the missing constable,” he said.A team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has also been deployed to trace the missing trainee. Local divers are also assisting in the search operation. Officials said that the strong flow of water in the canal is posing a major challenge to rescue efforts.Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police, Hardoi, Ashok Kumar Meena, reached the spot soon after receiving information.
