Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) on Thursday said its water conservation initiatives across the Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra metro networks are helping save nearly 62 lakh litres of water annually through rainwater harvesting and wastewater reuse.According to UPMRC, rainwater harvesting systems have been installed across the three metro networks to recharge groundwater and reduce dependence on freshwater sources. All operational metro depots function as zero-discharge facilities, where sewage treatment plants recycle wastewater for train washing, depot maintenance and horticulture.To further reduce water consumption, sensor-based flushing systems have been installed in urinals at metro stations, while over 1.1 lakh square metres of green landscape across the three cities is maintained using treated water.
