Lucknow: Over 77.10 lakh smart meters have been installed across Uttar Pradesh, with over 70.4 lakh of them being prepaid smart meters, officials said on Tuesday.The prepaid smart metering system will be fully operational from March 13. Under the new system, electricity supply will be automatically disconnected if the consumer’s prepaid balance is exhausted. Power department officials have urged consumers to ensure timely recharges and maintain a positive balance to avoid disruption of supply. Consumers can recharge their prepaid meters through the UPPCL website and mobile application, as well as digital payment platforms such as BHIM, PhonePe, and Google Pay. Recharge facilities are also available at electricity department counters. According to officials,consumers using prepaid smart meters will also receive a 2% rebate on their electricity bills. tnn
