BIJNOR: A 28-year-old woman, who was eight months pregnant, was allegedly smothered to death by her husband in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district, with police saying the couple had a strained relationship marked by a history of domestic abuse.The accused, Mukesh Saini, was arrested on Saturday after a post-mortem examination revealed that his wife, Meenakshi, had died due to suffocation, after which police intensified the investigation, PTI reported.According to Station House Officer (Mandawar) Sanjay Kumar, Meenakshi was found dead on her bed at their home in Simla Khurd village on Friday morning.The woman’s family initially approached police alleging that she had died due to dowry-related harassment.However, the post-mortem findings indicated death by suffocation, following which police arrested the husband.Police said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.(With agency inputs)
