Lucknow: An eight-year-old girl was injured after being attacked by a cow in the Arjunganj area on Friday.According to local residents, the girl, identified as Sunaina, 8, was passing through the area when a herd of cattle crossed the road. One of the cows charged at her, tossing her into the air several times. Sunaina sustained injuries on her limbs, face and spine. She was taken to a hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.Residents alleged that cattle roam freely in the locality despite repeated complaints to the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC). They said such incidents have become frequent and pose a risk to pedestrians, especially children and elderly people.Residents demanded action against people who left their animals in residential areas and on roads, and also for removal of illegal dairies from the area.LMC animal welfare officer Abhinav Verma said cattle-catching teams had been sent to the area. He said the teams would identify the animal and trace its owner. If the cow is found to be aggressive, it will be shifted to a cow shelter. The owner will be fined for allowing the animal to roam on public roads.
