Bahraich: An 80-year-old woman was trampled to death by a herd of elephants in Bhawanipur village of Bahraich district under Katarniaghat wildlife division.According to officials, the woman, Kunwariya, had gone to graze her goats near the forest area when the incident took place.Forest sub-inspector Radheshyam, forest guard Santosh Kumar, and watcher Sunil Gaur, reached the site. With the help of trained volunteers (‘gaj mitras’), the elephant herd was driven back into the forest.Bhawanipur village lies close to the forest making it prone to frequent human-wildlife conflict incidents.Wildlife expert Abhishek said that there was a need to increase awareness among villagers about elephant behavior and warning signs. “Awareness campaigns are being conducted but given the vast area, the efforts are still insufficient to fully prevent such incidents,” he said.
