Lucknow: King George’s Medical University has started using new 3 Tesla MRI machine which will provide clearer and more detailed reports about a patient’s illness and help doctors plan better treatment. With this addition, the total number of MRI machines at KGMU has increased to three.Officials said the new facility is expected to benefit around 80 to 100 patients daily, especially those requiring advanced brain, cancer, heart, bone and liver scans. The upgrade was necessary due to the heavy patient load at the university and the growing need for faster and more accurate diagnosis.Earlier MRI machines had lower strength and produced comparatively less detailed images. They also required longer scan times and were not as effective in detecting very small or early-stage problems. The new MRI offers sharper images and reduces scan time by nearly 40%, making the process quicker and more comfortable for patients. The machine has a wide opening to reduce fear and produces less noise, making it suitable for children and elderly patients. Several tests can now be done without contrast injection, which is safer for patients with kidney problems.Head of the radiology department Prof Anit Parihar said the new MRI will strengthen diagnosis, improve treatment planning and support advanced medical research, ultimately leading to better patient care in UP.
