Lucknow: The city witnessed a second consecutive day of intermittent rain on Monday, disrupting daily life across the city as several localities reported waterlogging, slow-moving traffic and power cuts. The situation worsened in parts of Vikas Nagar after a portion of a road caved in, prompting police to barricade the stretch and halt traffic movement to prevent accidents.Roads in Jankipuram and Faizullaganj recorded water levels reaching up to three feet, while waterlogging also affected Gomti Nagar, Aliganj, Niralanagar and Thakurganj, hampering movement of residents and vehicles. Vivek Sharma, a resident of Jankipuram, said the problem recurs every monsoon, adding that water accumulated on streets as rainfall intensified and entered some houses, making it difficult for people to step out.Traffic congestion was reported around key areas, including Vidhan Sabha, Hazratganj, Hussainganj, Tedhi Puliya, Kursi Road, Aliganj and Purania, where commuters faced long delays. Sumit Singh, travelling near Hazratganj, said inadequate traffic management at crossings kept vehicles stuck for extended periods, with rain further aggravating the pressure. The rain also exposed civic infrastructure issues, with the municipal corporation’s Zone-2 office reporting roof leakage. Rainwater was seen dripping from the ceiling and collecting near the city engineer’s room, despite repairs carried out four months ago at a cost of around Rs 8 lakh.In Vikas Nagar, the road cave-in occurred near Gulachin Mandir on a stretch that had reportedly seen problems earlier and remained closed for repairs for an extended period. An LMC senior official said teams have been deployed with essential equipment to address waterlogging, and senior officials have been directed to visit vulnerable areas and work to keep the city waterlogging-free.
