Lucknow: The state Cabinet gave its nod to setting up of the Uttar Pradesh Ghumantu Vikas Board on Tuesday. The Board will work for welfare and social and economic development of nomadic, semi-nomadic and denotified tribes in the state.The primary responsibility of the Board, under the department of social welfare, will be to identify members of these tribes, register them and ensure that they get the benefits of all central and state govt schemes they are eligible for.“The Board will provide policy recommendations, establish coordination between various departments and provide resolution for problems being faced by these tribes. The Board will function at two levels. The first will be at the state level, headed by minister of social welfare while the second rung will be active at the district level under the respective DMs,” said an official.The Board will have to meet at least once in three months. It will have the right to inspect, review and prepare a database. Its non-official members will have a tenure of three years.
