NASHIK: A mild earthquake followed by tremors hit Maharashtra’s Nashik, causing cracks in houses in some areas of the district, officials said on Sunday.There was no report of any loss of life, they said.An earthquake of 4.3 magnitude struck Nashik at 10 pm on Saturday, followed by a tremor of 3.3 magnitude at 5.33 am on Sunday, as per the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).A 4.3-magnitude earthquake followed by a 3.3-magnitude tremor struck Maharashtra’s Nashik district, causing cracks in some houses, officials said on Sunday.No casualties or loss of life have been reported so far, they said.According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at around 10 pm on Saturday, while the 3.3-magnitude tremor was recorded at 5.33 am on Sunday.The seismic activity was recorded at a depth of 5 km in the Bhanwad area, near the Hatgad mountain range along the Maharashtra-Gujarat border, officials said.Tremors were felt in several parts of Nashik district, including Nashik city, Surgana, Kalwan, Deola, Chandwad, Peth, Dindori and Niphad talukas, triggering panic among residents, many of whom rushed out of their homes.Cracks were reported in the walls of houses in Bhadar village in Surgana taluka and Nanashi village in Dindori taluka, district administration officials said.No casualties were reported. Officials also inspected dams in the affected areas and found no damage, they said.“People should not fear. They should not believe any rumours. However, everyone should remain alert and take safety precautions,” district Collector Ayush Prasad told PTI.Earlier, tremors were recorded in the district from July 25 to 28 and also on August 6.(With agency inputs)
