Lucknow: A 40-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly killed by his wife after she attacked him with a frying pan during a domestic dispute at her residence in the Jankipuram area on Thursday evening.According to police, the deceased, Ashish Soni alias Shani, was living separately from his wife, Tapasya (38). On Thursday, he went to meet his five-year-old daughter at his in-laws’ house when a dispute broke out between the couple.The two had a heated confrontation during which Tapasya allegedly struck her husband on the head with a frying pan causing him to collapse with serious head injuries.On receiving information, Jankipuram police reached the spot, and rushed Ashish to the Jankipuram Trauma Centre where he was declared dead.Police sent the body for postmortem, and informed the family.The deceased’s mother, Mithilesh Swarnkar, told police that the two had a love marriage in 2013, but disputes began soon after the marriage.She said that Tapasya left Ashish, and started living separately with their daughter.She further alleged that her daughter-in-law had been harassing her son and demanding money from him, which frequently led to disputes between them.She also alleged that in 2025, Tapasya along with few others had assaulted her son, and also filed a false FIR against him.Jankipuram inspector said Tapasya told police during questioning that she and Ashish had already been divorced, but he continued to visit her house and create disputes.However, Ashish’s mother told police that her son never informed her that he had been divorced.DCP (North) Amit Anand said the woman had been taken into custody and further legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
