Lucknow: The state tax department collected Rs 9,731 crore in Feb this year, which was Rs 352 crore more compared to the corresponding period last year following rationalisation of rates and simplification of processes under GST 2.0, said a govt spokesperson.The department also registered an annual collection of Rs 1,03,779 crore till Feb, which was Rs 402 crore more than the same period last year. “The e-invoice, e-way bill and online return filing systems were improved, making the process simpler for tax filers. This reduced tax evasion and also encouraged voluntary tax payment. Dialogues were held with traders in all 75 districts, where discussions were held on GST reforms, return filing, e-invoice, and e-way bill,” said the official. The department implemented an artificial intelligence (AI)-based return scrutiny system, under which data of over 1.59 lakh taxpayers worth Rs 48,000 crore was analysed. Compliance and review of judicial orders was also launched on a pilot basis. A campaign was launched against bogus firms to prevent revenue loss, and the department exposed Input Tax Credit (ITC) irregularities worth Rs 2,166 crore. The department recovered Rs 1,642 crore this financial year so far. The department also recovered Rs 2,406 crore as arrears under GST and Rs 711 crore under VAT. This was Rs 1,939 crore more compared to the previous year. It also held meetings with brick-kiln owners. In Jan 2026, revenue of Rs 47.62 crore was received from this sector, which was more than double compared to Dec.
