NEW DELHI: Cabinet Tuesday gave its approval for restructuring and reorienting the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and extended its timeline to Dec 2028 with an enhanced total outlay of around Rs 8.7 lakh crore.The focus the restructured JJM 2.0 would be on service delivery, supported by drinking water governance and institutional ecosystem for sustainable piped potable water supply.This will be done through a uniform national digital framework, namely “Sujalam Bharat”, under which every village will be assigned a unique Sujal Gaon/Service Area ID, digitally mapping the complete drinking water supply system from source to tap.The outlay of Rs 8.7 lakh crore for the programme includes central assistance of nearly Rs 3.6 lakh crore – an increase of more than Rs 1.5 lakh crore over the around Rs 2.1 lakh crore approved in 2019-20.The mission aims to provide drinking water through taps to households in rural India.
