Lucknow: Lucknow University Teachers’ Association (LUTA) has written to higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay, expressing concerns over the proposed reduction in examination fees for students saying it will adversely impact the university’s financial stability. The letter also requests an increase in govt grant for the university, which has not been increased in almost two decades, similar to aided colleges to match the salaries of teachers and staff. LUTA noted that examination and semester fees are the main sources of income, and any reduction could delay salary payments, affecting operations and govt credibility. The letter also points out that LU is facing difficulty in payment of salaries to existing employees despite the fact that 150 sanctioned teaching posts and numerous staff positions are vacant. The decision to write to the minister was taken during the executive committee meeting on Thursday at the staff club in response to his recent post on X on examination fees and news reports related to it.LUTA president Anitya Gaurav said, “We have written a letter to the higher education minister detailing these concerns, urging timely action to prevent financial difficulties at LU.” Other resolutions passed in the meeting included forming selection committees for pending teacher promotions, releasing arrears for approved promotions, and deputing officers from finance and registrar’s offices to the second campus for over 8,000 students.
