Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday accused the Election Commission of India of functioning under the influence of BJP and alleged that opposition voters were removed from electoral rolls through fraudulent means.Speaking to reporters in the Parliament complex, the former UP CM claimed that the BJP was using printed Form 7 applications with forged signatures to delete the names of voters associated with the Samajwadi Party. He alleged that forged signatures of the SP’s city president were used to remove the names of party supporters from voter lists. “The Samajwadi Party lodged a complaint with the EC regarding the alleged irregularities, but no action was taken,” he said. Akhilesh also questioned the conduct of the EC during elections. “When assembly elections are held in states where the BJP is not in power, senior officials such as the director general of police and chief secretary are often removed. However, such action is not taken in states governed by the BJP,” he said adding that in Uttar Pradesh, officials were retained even when their family members were contesting elections. Akhilesh also referred to the Ayodhya bypoll, claiming that the SP released a list of officials who allegedly influenced the outcome of the election, but no action was taken against them. Targeting the BJP govt over the ongoing LPG shortage, he said people across the country were facing difficulties in obtaining cooking gas cylinders and were forced to stand in long queues. He alleged that despite these hardships, govt continued to claim that there was no shortage. Raising concerns about a controversial question in the police recruitment examination, the former CM alleged that the BJP deliberately created such controversies to defame communities and opponents. He also referred to the legacy of Kanshi Ram, saying that the Samajwadi Party and Kanshi Ram once jointly gave a new political direction to the country by challenging the BJP. He recalled that Mulayam Singh Yadav and Kanshi Ram united to defeat the BJP politically. He added that those who struggled alongside Kanshi Ram throughout his life wanted him to receive due respect, and the Samajwadi Party also supported this demand.
