Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved Rs 305 crore for the construction of a three-lane flyover at Dubagga crossing on Hardoi Road, paving the way for a long-pending project aimed at reducing congestion on one of the city’s busy traffic corridors. The proposed flyover will be about 1,811 metres long and three lanes wide, with an overall width of more than 30 metres. The structure will connect the Kanpur Bypass, pass through Dubagga crossing, and extend towards IIM Road, providing a signal-free stretch for traffic.Currently, commuters have to cross the Dubagga intersection, which takes around 30 minutes to clear a 500-metre road stretch to connect with the Sitapur-IIM bypass. Due to heavy traffic barging from Chowk, Kanpur Road, and Hardoi-Sitapur Road, there is always a jam-like situation, which gets more choked during peak hours. The project was initially included in the 2025-26 action plan of Setu Nigam following a proposal by Lucknow MP and Union defence minister Rajnath Singh. A fresh survey was later ordered, and a revised estimate was prepared. An inspection of the proposed site was carried out in Jan, followed by submission of the updated proposal in Feb.Recently, a joint survey conducted by the Public Works Department (PWD) and Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation (Setu Nigam) cleared the technical aspects of the project. The report has been submitted to the govt after a revised cost assessment and alignment study.Officials said the survey confirmed that the project will not affect any protected heritage structures and does not violate environmental or wildlife regulations. The earlier estimated cost of Rs 337.60 crore was reduced after the fresh survey, officials said, adding that the project is expected to benefit more than four lakh residents by improving connectivity between Hardoi Road, Kanpur Road, Sitapur Road, Malihabad, and Chowk areas.Construction is expected to begin after completion of the remaining administrative formalities, officials said.
