Lucknow: Lucknow Metro on Tuesday launched the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), enabling passengers to use a single interoperable transport card for travel across metro systems in Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra and other cities where the facility has been adopted.The service was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation managing director Sushil Kumar, who said the initiative is based on the ‘One Nation, One Card’ concept and is aimed at making public transport more seamless and convenient.According to UPMRC, the NCMC can be used not only for metro travel but also for buses, parking facilities and retail services that support the interoperable payment system. Passengers travelling on Lucknow Metro with the NCMC will receive a 10% discount on every journey.The cards are available at Airtel Payments Bank counters and kiosks across all Lucknow Metro stations. Each card costs Rs 100, which is nonrefundable, and can be issued instantly through OTP based verification without KYC. Recharge options include NCMC kiosks, ticket vending machines, the Lucknow Metro app and the Airtel app using UPI, debit or credit cards.UPMRC said existing Go Smart Card holders can continue using their cards for now. A special exchange window will soon allow passengers to replace Go Smart Cards with NCMC cards free of charge within 30 days after utilising their remaining balance.
