Lucknow: A 30-year-old man allegedly killed his younger brother by repeatedly attacking him with an iron rod while he was asleep in his house in Banthra late Sunday night.The accused, Sarvan Gautam, has been arrested.According to police, the family was having dinner when an argument broke out between Sarvan and his younger brother, Alok alias Golu (24). Both were reportedly under the influence of alcohol.During the altercation, Sarvan allegedly pushed Alok, causing a minor head injury. Family members intervened and pacified the situation, after which Sarvan went to sleep on the terrace while Alok retired to a room inside the house.Later, Sarvan allegedly came downstairs, picked up an iron rod kept in the house, and launched a sudden attack on his sleeping brother. He repeatedly struck Alok on the head, killing him on the spot.The murder came to light early Monday morning when their mother went to wake up Alok.The victim’s father had died around eight years ago, and the family comprised three brothers, two sisters and their mother.ACP Rajneesh Verma said the iron rod used to commit the crime had been recovered from the house.The accused initially fled the scene but was later arrested near a canal culvert on the outskirts of the village.
