Lucknow: BSP chief Mayawati has convened a meeting of all the office-bearers of the UP unit of the party on Tuesday. She is likely to review the preparations for the assembly elections in UP scheduled for early next year. According to party sources, such review meetings have become a routine ever since BSP held a mega rally in Lucknow on Oct 9 last year to mark the death anniversary of party founder Kanshiram. While the rally drew a crowd of supporters from UP and outside, it turned out to be historic for the party, with Mayawati publicly addressing her supporters in Lucknow after a gap of 10 years. About Tuesday’s meeting agenda, a party functionary said, “Party supremo seeks feedback, gives instructions and discusses strategy for every region and district.” “Among the key instructions from Behenji to all of us is to increase the party’s janaadhar (vote base or mass base), and that is what she is most keen on,” added the party functionary. As of now, Mayawati has announced to contest solo in the upcoming elections. Harping on her tried and tested formula of social engineering, the BSP chief seeks to draw support from all castes and communities, as the strategy for 2027, similar to 2007, when BSP won 206 seats and formed a majority govt. Constituting five-member committees at booth level and holding smaller cadre camps to orient new members to the party’s ideology are ongoing to increase the party’s reach. OBC Bhaichara (brotherhood) committees have been created in every district. Similar committees for Muslim outreach have been formed in every division.
