HARIDWAR: A 35-year-old woman was arrested on Saturday for allegedly murdering her 40-year-old husband in Lahadpur village under Shyampur police station limits on Thursday, after the couple’s 12-year-old son exposed the crime. The couple’s 16-year-old daughter has also been detained as a co-accused in the case. Police said the mother and daughter were allegedly involved in separate relationships, which the victim opposed. Investigators said this led the two to conspire to eliminate him. They allegedly mixed sedatives in his drink and later suffocated him with a pillow while he was asleep. The next morning, they tried to pass off the death as suicide by claiming he had consumed poison. However, their version collapsed after the couple’s 12-year-old son, who had witnessed the incident from another room, narrated the sequence of events to his grandmother, prompting a police complaint. City SP Abhay Singh said, “Victim’s family called the police after his 12-year-old son narrated the ordeal. We also found suspicious activities of the accused wife of the victim. The post-mortem report also confirmed strangulation, after which a case was registered and police managed to arrest her, while we also detained the couple’s minor daughter, who was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board for further action.” He said that the role of the accused persons’ male acquaintances is also being investigated, and action will be taken accordingly based on the findings.
