Officials said Shanti Devi of Semri Ghatahi village was collecting firewood in the sanctuary when the feline attacked her from behind around 9am. Shanti suffered severe injuries to her jaw and her right-hand thumb was severed in the attack. She was rushed to Mihipurwa’s Community Health Centre and later referred to a medical college.Forest officials reached the hospital and provided financial assistance to the victim’s family. DFO, Apoorva Dixit, urged villagers to avoid solo trips to forests, move in groups, keep kids and women away from forest areas, and report any wild animal sightings to authorities.The sanctuary has seen a surge in tiger attacks this year. Since Jan, there have been 11 attacks, resulting in injuries and fatalities. Some incidents include the death of an 8-year-old boy on Feb 5, and the killing of a 7-year-old boy on Mar 7. More recent attacks include the injury of a 15-year-old boy on Apr 3 and a 10-year-old boy on Apr 7.
