The applications have been received from all 20 regions of the corporation till March 28 —the last date to apply under the scheme.Minister of state for transport (independent charge) Dayashankar Singh said so far 286 applications have been screened by district-level committees headed by the DMs and the remaining will be done by April 13.He said the plan to connect all 59,163 gram panchayats in UP by public transport was approved by the state cabinet on March 17, and the service is likely to start in May.“Arrangements are being made to operate private minibuses in about 12,200 villages with each having a maximum capacity of 28 passengers. The main objective is to provide people living in villages with direct and safe access to block, tehsil and district headquarters,” he said.
