Vijayawada: Olympic medallist Sakshi Malik inaugurated the three-day national-level sports fest “UDGAM 2026” at SRM University-AP on Thursday. Wrestling champion Satyawart Kadian attended the event as Guest of Honour.According to university officials, the fest has brought together athletes from various universities across the country to compete in multiple sporting events. Vice Chancellor Prof. Ch Satish Kumar, in his address, outlined the institution’s focus on overall student development and stated that a sports complex is being planned to support training in selected disciplines, including wrestling.Director of Sports Dr. V. Koul said the event provides a platform for students to participate in competitive sports and demonstrate their abilities.During the inaugural session, Sakshi Malik spoke about her journey in wrestling and interacted with students and participants. She also addressed athletes on the importance of discipline and consistent effort in sports.On the occasion, the university presented cash awards to three student athletes who secured gold medals at the 85th All India Inter-University Athletics Championships 2025–26. Mubasina Muhammed (Long Jump) received ₹10 lakh, while Aditya (Javelin Throw) and Anamika (Heptathlon) were awarded ₹5 lakh each.The event includes competitions in football, volleyball, basketball, kabaddi, badminton, table tennis, chess, and e-sports. University officials, faculty members, and students were present.
