Lucknow: The Home Guards’ written examination was conducted across 74 districts of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday in a largely peaceful and well‑managed manner, though four persons were arrested in separate incidents for attempting to use unfair means on the first day of the three‑day test, officials said.The exams, held under the supervision of the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, took place in two shifts at 1,053 centres.A total of 8,44,066 candidates had been called, out of which 6,35,856 (75.33%) appeared. The examination will also be held on April 26 and 27 in two shifts. About 25.32 lakh candidates will appear for the exam for 41,424 posts.Extensive security arrangements have been put in place, including deployment of police personnel, magistrates, CCTV surveillance and strict frisking protocols to ensure transparency and prevent malpractice.In Etah, one accused was arrested after he was found using a forged admit card at DAV Inter College, Saket. Investigations revealed that crucial details such as roll number, exam timing and reporting time had been tampered with. A case has been registered at Saket police station under sections of the BNS, 2023, and the Uttar Pradesh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. Police are also taking action against a Lokvani centre operator allegedly involved in preparing the fake document.In a separate case in Kanpur Nagar, three individuals were arrested from BNSD Inter College, Chunniganj. They were allegedly found concealing prohibited electronic devices inside an NCC room to facilitate cheating. A case has been registered at Colonelganj police station.Officials stressed that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found indulging in unfair practices. Candidates have been advised to stay alert against misinformation and avoid falling prey to touts or fraudulent schemes.
