Lucknow: The Ganga Expressway project, set to bring a major transformation in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure landscape, has now reached its final stage. The 594-km Ganga Expressway, being developed on a public-private-partnership model, will be thrown open on April 29, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath will flag off the first vehicle on the carriageway of the high-speed corridor.A successful example of strategic planning, the Yogi govt issued directives to Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) to get the project implemented through the participation of more than one construction company. Besides expediting civil works, the approach followed by the UP govt ensured increased transparency during the execution of the project.Commissioned with a budget of Rs 36,500 crore, the project has been divided into four packages and was handed over to the two construction agencies to take up the civil works. The multi-package model turned out to be the core strength of the project, resulting in timely execution of the crucial project.Once thrown open for vehicular traffic, the travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj would come down substantially, and improved connectivity is going to be provided in the 10 more districts situated between the western and eastern end of the project.Integrated manufacturing and logistics clusters linked to the expressway are expected to give a significant boost to industrial development in the state in the long term. Ganga Expressway will also lower logistics costs, improve connectivity for industries and create new investment opportunities.
