Lucknow: Distressed over failing the UP Board Class 12 examination, a 17-year-old girl student allegedly died by suicide in Sitapur.Her father said that his daughter failed the examination and was distressed since then.On Tuesday night, she consumed some poisonous substance. She was found unconscious the next morning and taken to the district hospital, where she succumbed during treatment.Chief medical superintendent Dr Indra Singh said that the exact nature of the toxic substance consumed would be confirmed after the post-mortem. The school principal said the girl was studying at the institution since Class IX. “She was a sincere student. Her death has deeply saddened the entire school,” she said.Mental health experts have stressed the need for greater emotional support for students during examination periods. Psychiatrist Dr Shobhit Saxena said that failure is a part of life and should not be seen as the end. “Parents must support their children, avoid scolding them, and spend time with them if they appear distressed. If needed, professional help should be sought, and children should not be left alone during vulnerable periods,” he advised.
