LUCKNOW: A viral video showing a man performing life-threatening stunts on a moving electric scooter on the streets of Lucknow has triggered action from the city traffic police, who have seized the vehicle and initiated proceedings to cancel its registration. The incident, which surfaced on social media on Monday, showed the rider recklessly speeding through the Gomti Nagar area while violating multiple traffic and safety norms. The video quickly sparked outrage online, with users demanding strict action against the rider for endangering public safety. In the now-viral clip, the middle-aged rider can be seen removing both hands from the scooter handle while the vehicle continues moving at high speed. In an even more dangerous act, he folds both his arms and legs and balances himself on the scooter seat while moving through traffic. The person recording the video, believed to be travelling behind the scooter, can be heard claiming that the vehicle was touching nearly 60 kmph during the stunt. Despite being questioned by the videographer, the rider smiled at the camera and continued the dangerous act without hesitation. The video also appeared to show that the scooter was moving without a visible registration plate, raising concerns over possible traffic violations and the authenticity of the vehicle details. After the clip gained traction online, the official Uttar Pradesh Police social media handle tagged Lucknow Police and sought immediate action in the matter. Gomti Nagar police and the traffic department subsequently launched an inquiry to identify the rider.Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Raveena Tyagi said that, based on CCTV footage, the rider had been identified as Vivek Anand, son of Brijanand Singh and a resident of the Takrohi area in Lucknow.“During questioning, Vivek allegedly admitted that he was riding the electric scooter the previous night while performing stunts without wearing a helmet,” said the DCP.Police said the scooter, bearing registration number UP 32 PQ 6368, has been seized under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.Further investigation revealed that the accused did not possess a valid driving licence and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the stunt. Taking serious note of the violation, police said legal proceedings have also been initiated to cancel the registration of the vehicle.Officials described the act as a grave threat not only to the rider’s life but also to other commuters and pedestrians on the road.In its advisory, Lucknow Traffic Police appealed to citizens not to indulge in dangerous stunts or reckless driving on public roads. “Road safety is a collective responsibility. Strict legal action will continue against those violating traffic rules and risking lives,” the DCP said.
